Ghausiyya Sunni Jam’iyyathul Ulama, the official Ulama council of the Sunni – Sufi scholars of Kerala, was inaugurated by its chief patron and the renowned Sufi master, His Holiness Quthbuzzaman Dr. Shaikh Sufi Muhammad Yousuf Sulthan Shah Qadiri Chishti, on 24th Novemember 2013, at the Kaloor International Stadium, Kochi. The Ghausiyya council , consisting of forty erudite academic scholars as executives, represents the traditional Sunni legal scholarship, operational at academic research and public guidance in Islamic systems of knowledge, providing teaching and directives in matters related to rituals and belief, and significantly upholding the Sufi tradition of in-depth teachings in tasawwuf and eminent guidance in tariqah (authentic Qadiri-Chishti Sufism in theory and practice). The ulama council of Sufi scholars is currently functioning under the supreme guidance of the esteemed Sufi successor of Holy Hazrat Quthbuzzaman, His Holiness Naeb Quthbuzzaman Dr. Shaikh Nizamudhin Sulthan Shah Qadiri Chishti, based at the founding centre, Jeelani Shareef, Cochin – Kerala.

As a turning point in the region’s history of Islamic community, the formation of a distinct Sufi-Sunni council of ulama in the 21st century was initiated by the supreme leader of Qadiri-Chishti Sufi Silsila, Holy Hazrat Quthbuzzaman Shaikh Yousuf Sulthan Shah Qadiri Chishti, in order to redirect the Muslim life of the region and beyond back to the pristine path of traditional Islamic path, practicing sharia without compromising on Sufism. Representing the traditional Sunni Islamic scholarship in sharia (legal doctrine & jurisprudence) along with the authentic emphasis to the Sufi spiritual guidance and moral teachings, Ghausiyya Jam’iyyathul Ulama serves the critical scholarly functions for the Islamic community, under the wider mission of socio-religious reforms carried out by the Sufi Shaikh and Islamic scholar Hazrat Quthbuzzaman, since the early 1970s in Kerala.

Firmly following the footsteps of the founder, the Sufi heir and the current patron of Jeelani movement of religious revival and social reform with a critical progressive vision for the humanity, Holy Sufi Hazrat Naeb Quthbuzzaman Sheikh Nizamudhin Sulthan Shah Qadiri Chishti directs the Sufi-ulama under his guidance to serve the religious community by guiding them toward the original traditions of Islamic life, grounded in sharia (exoteric practices) and following tariqah (esoteric path). Under the direction of the Supreme Shaikh, Hazrat Naeb Quthbuzzaman, the Ghausiyya council actively mobilizes the believers, teaching and guiding them in the Sunni-Sufi path of Islamic tradition. Currently, with an academically educated eminent array of Sunni Islamic scholars rooted in Qadiri-Chishti Sufi tradition, Hazrat Shaikh Nizamudhin Sulthan Shah Qadiri Chishti vigorously leads the scholarly mission for the contemporary society, critically admonishing the community of the fake and dishonest religious scholars by exposing the politicized leadership of the popular ulama councils, and powerfully promising the pious and perfect path of knowledge and practice of ‘din’ (the Prophetic tradition).
